Quoting & Buying Auto Insurance

How do I get an auto insurance quote?

There are two ways to get a quote, you can call us at (877) 334-7646, or you can start your quote online. When you start a quote online, it will create a new business support request in our system, and an agent will call you back as soon as possible.

What information do I need to get an accurate quote?

To get the most accurate quote, you’ll need:

  • Your vehicle’s make, model, year, and VIN (if available)
  • The names, birthdates, and driver’s license numbers of all drivers in your household
  • Your current insurance policy details (if applicable)
  • Your driving history, including accidents and violations
How long does it take to get a quote?

Most quotes take just a few minutes when done online. If you’re speaking with an agent, it may take longer depending on the level of customization you need.

Can I get an auto insurance quote without a driver’s license?

Yes, but it may be limited. Some insurers require a valid driver’s license to issue a policy, while others may allow you to purchase a policy for a permitted driver or for a vehicle that’s not actively being driven.

Do I have to buy my policy online, or can I speak with someone?

You can’t purchase your auto insurance online. We’re an insurance agency, not the carrier. You can start a quote online, but to purchase, one of our insurance agents will have to assist.

When does my auto insurance coverage start?

Your coverage begins as soon as you complete your purchase and select an effective date. If you’re switching from another policy, ensure there’s no lapse in coverage.

Do I need auto insurance if my car is paid off?

Yes. Most states require liability insurance at a minimum, even if you own your vehicle outright. Full coverage may not be necessary unless you want protection against theft or damage.

Can I switch auto insurance companies at any time?

Yes, you can switch insurers at any time. However, check if there are any cancellation fees with your current provider, and ensure you have new coverage in place before canceling your old policy.

Do some cars cost more to insure?

Yes, absolutely. Auto insurance rates vary based on the type of car you drive. Vehicles with higher repair costs, powerful engines, or a greater risk of theft tend to have higher premiums. For example, convertibles often cost more to insure due to their structure, performance, and vulnerability to theft or vandalism.

Coverage & Discounts

What types of auto insurance coverage are available?

You can find a detailed breakdown on our auto insurance coverage page. Most policies include:

  • Liability coverage (required in most states)
  • Collision coverage (for damage to your vehicle from accidents)
  • Comprehensive coverage (for theft, vandalism, or non-collision damage)
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage (protects you if the at-fault driver lacks insurance)
  • Medical payments or personal injury protection (PIP) (covers medical expenses)
Do I need full coverage, or is liability enough?

If you have a loan or lease, your lender may require full coverage (comprehensive + collision). If you own your car outright, liability is the minimum required, but full coverage may still be a good option to protect your investment.

What is the difference between collision and comprehensive coverage?
  • Collision pays for damage to your car from an accident, regardless of fault.
  • Comprehensive covers non-collision damage, such as theft, fire, vandalism, or weather-related damage.
Does my policy cover rental cars?

It depends. Some policies extend coverage to rental cars, while others require you to purchase rental car insurance. Check with your insurer to confirm your coverage.

Can I insure a car that isn’t in my name?

Most insurers require the policyholder to have an insurable interest in the vehicle, meaning you must own or lease the car. Some exceptions apply for family members.

How do I qualify for auto insurance discounts?

There is a wide variety of discounts, and they vary by insurance carrier. We break down many of those discounts on our auto insurance discounts page. Generally, they all offer discounts for:

  • Safe driver discounts
  • Multi-policy (bundling auto & home) discounts
  • Multi-vehicle discounts
  • Good student discounts
  • Defensive driving course discounts
  • Low mileage discounts
What is accident forgiveness, and does my policy include it?

Accident forgiveness prevents your premium from increasing after your first at-fault accident. Not all insurers offer this, and eligibility depends on your driving record.

Does my credit score affect my auto insurance rate?

In many states, insurers use credit-based insurance scores as part of the insurance pricing process. However, some states restrict or prohibit this practice. If you live in California, credit is not allowed for private passenger auto insurance.

What happens if I let my insurance lapse?

A lapse in coverage can lead to higher future premiums, potential fines, and even license suspension in some states. If your policy is about to lapse, contact us immediately to explore your options.
